Macy’s bringing back Toys R Us

Macy’s is bringing back the place where a kid can be a kid.

Macy’s announced it has partnered with WHP Global to bring back Toys R stores to North America The beloved toy store closed its last U.S. locations earlier this year after a comeback attempt under Tru Kids Incorporated, which acquired the brand during its liquidation in 2018.

According to Forbes, Macy’s is now selling exclusive branded toys from Toys R Us at, and next plans to add Toys R Us retail stores inside more than 400 Macy’s department stores in 2022. A list of locations have not been announced, but Macy’s has stores at Destiny USA in Syracuse, the Greece Ridge Center near Rochester, the Walden Galleria in Buffalo, the Crossgates Mall in Albany, and the Colonie Center

As part of the big return, Macy’s will push the brand pretty hard starting next year. That means a Geoffrey the Giraffe balloon in their Thanksgiving Day parade. In a pandemic world, consolidation is how a lot of these brands are surviving. While it won’t be the massive toy emporium from our childhoods, it’s certainly better than going the way of the dinosaur. The Toys “R” Us name is still an iconic one, so it makes sense that Macy’s would hone in on such a well-known brand.

Further information, including shop size and which specific Macy’s stores will incorporate a section, is still unknown at this time. But we can’t wait to see what it will look like. We expect more news about this collaboration in the coming months.
