Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani dies at 91

Senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani has died at the age of 91.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani, a senior Hurriyat leader, was ill for a long time and passed away in Srinagar today.

The Occupied Kashmir Administration had kept Syed Ali Gilani under house arrest for many years. He was 91 years old.

Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone confirmed the death of Syed Ali Gilani and said that Syed Ali Shah Gilani, the founder of Tehreek-e-Azadi Kashmir, was no longer with us.

He said that Syed Ali Shah Gilani passed away at 10 pm tonight in Srinagar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani was born on September 29, 1929.

Syed Ali Gilani played an important role in the struggle for independence of occupied Kashmir. He was also the head of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

Syed Ali Gilani was also a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir. Later, Syed Ali Gilani formed his own party under the name of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.

Former Chief Minister of Occupied Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Syed Ali Gilani.

He said that Syed Ali Gilani always adhered to his principles and always respected him despite his differences.
