Russian minister Yevgeny Zinichev dies during Arctic training exercise
Russian Minister Yevgeny Zinichev lost his life trying to save a cameraman from drowning during a training exercise.
According to the World News Agency, Russia’s Minister of Emergency Situations Yevgeny Zinichev was overseeing a training exercise in Chef Norilsk when a cameraman slipped and fell into the water, drowning the Russian minister while trying to save him.
A statement from the Ministry of Emergency Situations said Yevgeny Zinichev, 55, had visited a search and rescue team in the area, in addition to the construction site of a new fire station in Norilsk, to monitor the large-scale exercises.
Meanwhile, a cameraman slipped and fell into the water. To save him, the minister also jumped into the water and died after hitting a rock under water.
Russian Minister Yevgeny Zinichev took over the ministry of emergency in 2018.
