Bodycam footage shows Houston cops running over Michael Wayne Jackson on sidewalk with cruiser
Dramatic new police bodycam footage captures the moment a Houston cop drives his cruiser onto the sidewalk and kills a 62-year-old Michael Wayne Jackson.
The recently released footage shows Houston Police Officer Orlando Hernandez driving at up to 100 mph in a 40-mph zone to respond to a call to back up other cops on Dec. 4.
Hernandez, who was riding with his partner, Anthony Aranda, swerved to avoid other vehicles when he mounted the sidewalk and slammed into pedestrian Michael Wayne Jackson, according to the Houston Chronicle.
“S–t! F–k!” Hernandez yelled after hitting Jackson, with the impact shattering the windshield. “F–k, f–k.”
The cops rushed out of the cruiser and to the mortally injured pedestrian on the ground.
“Sir. Sir,” Hernandez can be heard saying before he radios police headquarters.
“I need HFD here. I just got wrecked out,” the cop said. “Scott and Reed. One male patient. Not conscious, he’s not breathing. He has bleeding from the head.”
“Sir, sir,” Hernandez turned back to Jackson. “Wake up, sir.”
Jackson had been walking to the barber at 5:40 p.m. when he was hit, the Chronicle said.
Another officer arrived and performed chest compressions but Jackson was later declared dead at the scene, the newspaper said.
Both Hernandez and Aranda were placed on administrative duty pending a department investigation, which has not yet been concluded.
