J $tash, 28, allegedly shot his one-year girlfriend Jeannette Gallegos, 28, in their Temple City home at around 7a.m. on January 1 before taking his own life

Florida rapper J $tash took his own life after allegedly shooting and killing a woman in front of her children on New Years Day.

According to multiple reports, the incident took place at approximately 7am on Saturday (1 January) in Temple City, California.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has confirmed that J $tash, whose real name was Justin Joseph, and a woman named Jeanette Gallegos died at the scene.

Lieutenant Derrick Alfred of LA PD added that Jeanette’s three children, aged seven, nine, and 11, were in front of the room’s door and kept on knocking on it as they were worried about their mother’s safety. They then called their grandmother, who told them to dial 911.

‘It’s a very tragic situation,’ he said.

The murder-suicide took place at the 9200 block of Pentland Street in Temple City, where Gallegos and her children were living

The three children fled the home after one of them called 911. It’s unclear if the call was made before or after she was shot. Deputies found the three boys running at them upon arrival at the scene. They did not suffer any physical injuries.

he lieutenant added that the rapper is not the father of the children and that they are now staying with other family members.

Autopsies for J $tash and Gallegos are schedules as investigators continue to work on what exactly led up to the gunfire.

Some reports claim that Gallegos and J $tash were in a relationship, however, those reports haven’t been confirmed.

J $tash was most notably associated with rapper Rich the Kid as a former Rich Forever label signee. According to a 2017 Crack Magazine interview, J $tash grew up in South Florida then moved to New York.

He further told the magazine that he wanted to focus on ‘building companies and opening up stores in different countries’ aside from music.

‘Of which I’ve been doing on the low secretly,’ he added.

‘Rapping was just platform to get myself out there and grow.’
